First Postpartum Run

Running is hard work. It works many muscles in the body, including the heart.

I got into running a few years ago when I had a lot of stress caused by work. I soon fell in love with the way running made my body and mind feel.

My last run while pregnant was in September when I was about 5 months pregnant. My time slowed down significantly, but I was still healthy enough to run. Since then, I continued with walking, yoga and Zumba.

Now, my first time running was hard. It felt like I had to start over from a scratch. I had a longer warm up, had many breaks and my pace had slowed.

I ran for 20 minutes after a 5-10 minute warm up. During the run, I ran at a 4.5 pace and completed just shy of 2 miles. I kept reminding myself during the run that I needed to take it easy on my body – push myself and give myself the break when needed.

But, I’m glad to say I have my first postpartum run in the books and can’t wait for the next. Then I can’t wait until I can run with my daughter in our jogging stroller. 💪🏃‍♀️👶
