Running with the pup

Running with the dog is a great way to get the pooch active, create a bond and have fun at the same time.

Running Obstacles

Running with my dog has given me and her great joy. She gets excited every time I get ready, grab her leash and get ready to out the door.

The breed she is is great for running. She has a lot of Rhodesian Ridgeback in her and believe she is mixed with boxer and greyhound. She doesn’t need too much water and can run for miles. However, she likes to go to the bathroom during the run and sniff everything.

We have been working on the sniffing with simple commands, such as ‘leave it’ and ‘no’. During the cool down, she is allowed to sniff around on the way back.

The going to the bathroom is normal for dogs, but this has become a bit of a challenge. We walk around before the run so she knows to do her business before we go. However, I know it happens and I plan my route to where we can circle around to trash cans.

Least to say it is a work in progress, and it’s about consistency with her. We both have come a long way with the runs, and she is always excited when the running shoes and the leash come out.
